ChokKa make happy sounds for the head, heart and feet, delivered in signature neon outfits and UV bling. ChokKa combine the energy of a live, loose, funky band using the electronic sounds of old-school dance music and bringing the joyful inclusivity of the dance floor to get people moving. We look different and we sound different. ChokKa aim to create the sounds, vibe, look and atmosphere of a underground festival dancefloor or a crazy rave. We appeal to young people, music lovers, children, dancers and anyone who wants a fun show.
ChokKa are a 3-piece band consisting of electric lead guitar, keyboards, synth bass and electronic drums. We play everything live. Our unusual, happy and upbeat original music has a wide appeal. Our music is influenced by modern dance music, funk, groovy bits and more. We’re skilled musicians with flowing, melodic lead guitar, synth bass, jazz-influenced keyboards and electronic drums. ChokKa create melodies, structures and rhythms for dancing and listening.
Formed in 2022 by 3 experienced Scottish musicians with 30+ years of gigging experience between them, ChokKa have been playing together for parties and events including Knockengorroch Festival in 2024 and Vogrie Pogrie Festival in 2025.
For 2026 we are putting on a full evening show with our own Tour DJs spinning vinyl to make for a complete evening event. ChokKa are based in Ardfern, Argyll and Glasgow.
In 2025 ChokKa hosted ChokKa Party I, our own free conceptual party/mini-festival with DJs, visuals, art installations and general madness on a farm in the middle of nowhere. We made a lot of people very happy. We are now working on ChokKa Party II for May 2026. ChokKa were chosen to play the Touring Network Gathering Showcase Afterparty in May 2025.
Coming from the west coast of Scotland we’ve had plenty of experience playing in unusual places, from front rooms to distilleries via Islands and bothies. We’re actively looking for unusual musical opportunities with lovely people in interesting places.
ChokKa would of course never reveal their true identities to the audience, but if you can keep a secret I can let you know that the band could be;
Caledonia J; lead guitar, Edinburgh Napier Pop Music Graduate. Likes labradors, RocknRoll and dancing.
Ruari E; keyboards and synths, former member of the Scottish Youth Jazz Orchestra. Likes pirates, Funk and dancing.
Tom F; electronic drums. Likes kayaks, HipHop and dancing.
ChokKa are based in Argyll and Glasgow, but happy to travel all over Scotland and beyond.
Our preference is for a whole evening ChokKa event. We would bring our own two tour DJs playing vinyl, and a full PA with our sound and lights Technician to put on the best possible show. ChokKa would play a 1 hour to 1 ½ hour set of original, live music with our DJs playing a warm-up and full-on after gig set for as long as appropriate. We’d suggest 90 minutes before the band and 45 after but are very flexible. We don’t have an interval as dancing, smiling and laughing equals buying more drinks from the bar. This would cost around £750 for the complete package plus reasonable travel costs and basic accommodation tbc.
We can also play a 1 hour to 1½ hour set of original, live music with lights etc as a 3 piece. Your venue will need a decent PA and Technician, a dancefloor and some people to jump around on it but that’s about all. The band have no acoustic instruments and have a simple tech set-up and do not require a large stage. ChokKa would like around £450 for a show plus reasonable travel costs and basic accommodation tbc.
We’re generally very reasonable so please ask so we can make it work for you and us. We are very happy to discuss door splits and shared Touring Network funding, micro tours etc.
Get in/set up time 2.5 hours. Get out, much less. We are enthusiastic members of the Touring Network and especially want to play in suitable TN venues and are happy to discuss a series of shows in nearby venue to split costs.
