About the Show

Inspired by Victoria’s own childhood obsession with athletics, Going for Gold: Me and Linford Christie tells the story of Vicky, who watches Linford Christie win gold in the 100m final at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and decides she wants to be an Olympian. There is only one obstacle; she isn’t very good at sport.

We follow Vicky through primary school and into secondary school. We see a moment of sporting success, and many of her sporting failures. We also see Vicky struggle to make friends as she moves into high school. She is guided through all of these experiences by her hero Linford Christie, who talks to her through a poster on her bedroom wall until, against all odds, she makes it all the way to the London 2012 Olympics ...
