Jabuti Theatre

Jabuti Theatre is run by Artistic Director, Rachael Macintyre, and based in Forres, Morayshire. In addition to creating work under the name Jabuti Theatre, Rachael offers herself as an individual Director, Producer, Performer, Aerial and/or Puppetry Consultant.

Rachael’s background is in puppetry; raised by puppeteers Kim Bergsagel and Symon Macintyre (Puppet Lab/ Vision Mechanics), Rachael was brought up touring across Scotland and taking part in community projects in rural areas, making and performing. In 2010 Rachael began working professionally as a performer, having previously worked with Puppet Lab, NVA and Surge in management and producing and administration, and taken various masterclasses in writing and dramaturgy at the Traverse. When she started performing puppetry, she also began training aerial-dance, and has since trained with All or Nothing, Strangebird Zirkus, Fidget Feet and Paper Doll Militia. In 2012, Rachael began making her own work under the name Jabuti Theatre. It began with outreach workshops in partnership with North Edinburgh Arts and became My City, which toured as part of the Puppet Animation Festival in 2014, and was supported by Creative Scotland, Bord Na Gaidhlig and Imaginate. Rachael created the show, which was directed by Alisdair Satchel. To date Rachael has created three full productions under the name Jabuti Theatre, all funded by Creative Scotland; My City, In Her Shadows (an aerial-dance piece in collaboration with A Blank Canvas and Directed by Cora Bisset) and Moonbeam on a Cat’s Ear (Directed by Symon Macintyre). She is currently working on her newest production, Paper Memories, which she will Direct and perform in. Paper Memories is funded by Creative Scotland, with support from Scottish Refugee Council, Glasgow Life and Imaginate, and will tour as part of the Puppet Animation Festival in Spring 2019. 

Rachael has recently relocated to Forres and is currently working on connecting with the local community; offering workshops in aerial-dance at Dyke Community Centre, and connecting with Eden Court and Findhorn Bay Arts, and hoping to make future, as yet unknown connections with local artists, producers and organisations.
