Mairi Campbell

Mairi Campbell is a pioneering Scottish musician whose work is rooted in, and draws from her personal stories and cultural concerns. After studying classical viola at the Guildhall School of Music, she has become an established member of Scotland’s traditional music scene, pushing the boundaries with her use of free improvisation, songs and stagecraft. As an interpreter of Scots song, with David Francis, Mairi has contributed a significant number of songs to its current canon. She is the recipient of six national music awards including the Inspiration Award in 2018. 

Her first solo show Pulse (2016) gained much critical acclaim and toured widely. 

Her new show Mairi Campbell: Auld Lang Syne is the story of Scotland’s most famous song. Taking audiences on new adventures taking in singing for US President Bill Clinton, a starring role in Sex and the City and a reinterpretation of the Robert Burns classic that changed her life, this  funny  and heartfelt  show  resonates  with  wider  universal truths.

Mairi Campbell: Auld Lang Syne is a continuation of Mairi’s exploration of multi-artform performance and this collaboration is co-devised directed and directed by Kath Burlinson,  featuring a collection of tracks composed with musician David Gray with input from musician David Francis and featuring sculpture from sound artist Tim Vincent Smith and animation from Claire Lamond.

Mairi Campbell has been part of both the 2016 and 2018 Made in Scotland Showcases.
