Charioteer Theatre

Charioteer Theatre is a Scottish theatre company based in Edinburgh. It specializes in projects and plays for young adults. Our aim is to develop the personal and collective growth of young people by offering a new perspective on the Classics and contemporary texts. We cover many subjects and themes of significance for a young audience which stimulates critical thinking.

The company has produced fifteen successful plays since 2005, including Treasure Island, Breakfast With Shakespeare, To Be or…Note! and The Merry Wives of William.We work with international actors who bring their own individuality and diversity to our performances.  We have collaborated with several theatres over the years, and we developed interesting international collaborations such as a one-month residency at Piccolo Teatro di Milano  – Theatre of Europe every year.

Supporting activities include workshops in schools, theatre laboratories, debates at the end of the plays and didactic materials, which are all an integral part of the experience we offer the audience. We have developed a complete teaching programme supporting our productions over the years and believe that theatrical performance is not to be seen in isolation, but as a significant milestone on a path which starts in the classroom and ends on the stage.

We periodically organise courses and summer camps in Scotland and Italy, offering the opportunity to practice foreign languages, cultivating individual creativity, and growing together.

We offer workshops and masterclasses to professional actors on Commedia dell’Arte, improvisation skills, and physical theatre.
