#DontStopTheFlames is a project by Tricky Hat, where Flames across Scotland, Japan and New Zealand devised with Tricky Hat associate artists to create 8 films over the last 6 months.
This project is supported by Creative Scotland and British Council – facilitated by Scottish Government – and Sendai Cultural Fund.
These free-to-view films are available for venues to share through their outreach and community programming.
The Flames is Tricky Hat’s performance company for creative people aged 50 plus. First established in 2016 as part of the Luminate Festival, the company uses performance, film and specially composed music to explore stories about life after 50, challenging our perceptions of ageing.
Some of The Flames have been given iPads and training to film themselves, some are being filmed at a social distance, but they are all at home and telling their stories about a new way of living and how they are navigating through this unchartered territory.
Says director Fiona Miller, “Under normal circumstances, we do all of our devising in person. However, a lot of our work is now done digitally, or from a social distance if meeting in person is possible. Trying out different methods of working has allowed us to be creative in new ways. We are really excited to release our films and put the spotlight on our Scottish and Japanese Flames’ incredible stories and perspectives.”
