The Jennifer Ewan Band perform a stirring mix of compelling original songs, Louisiana blues and old-time Cajun dance music with a Celtic tint.
The band comprises singer-songwriter/guitarist Jennifer Ewan, accordionist and flautist Kim Tebble (Deaf Heights Cajun Aces), Jamie Hogg on bass and percussionist Paul Dennington.
Jennifer has an unusually rich and distinctive Scots voice. Her personal ballads soar over grooves from the Louisiana bayous and an intricate interplay of accordion, flute, acoustic guitar, fretless bass and percussion.
Jennifer says: “There’s a lot of Scotland in our music – my love song to Portobello beach, the run-down flats I’ve rented in Edinburgh back streets, and my time guiding tourists under the Royal Mile on Ghost Tours. I really adore the live feel of Louisiana French Creole and Cajun music combined with my own Scottish contemporary sounds. I think it all fits together perfectly and feeds the head, the heart and the soul.”
The band has a growing reputation and went down a storm both on BBC Radio’s The Afternoon Show and on BBC Radio Scotland’s “The Janice Forsyth Show”, where Jennifer was described as ‘Just brilliant – music of the highest quality – a Scottish rising star’.
Over the past few years the Jennifer Ewan Band has been touring the Highlands of Scotland and playing numerous gigs and festivals across The country. They first brought their show, Bonnie Bayou, to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2017 and performed to sell-out audiences throughout their twelve nights of shows, building on this success at the 2018 and 2019 Festival with highly acclaimed runs at the Jazz Bar and then a successful online Fringe show in 2021 filmed in the blazing sun at Narrowboat Farm on the Union Canal. They returned to live shows at The Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2022 and performed their new show Bonnie Bayou Blues, featuring the sounds of Cajun Blues, to packed houses at the Jazz Bar for their nine show run in 2022.
In 2023 the band will be releasing a single with Ramrock Records called The Space Girl, also touring the Highlands with the Touring Network and NEAT, and will come back to the Edinburgh Fringe with ‘Bonnie Bayou’.
