The Metamorphosis: Unplugged

The Metamorphosis is the story of an ordinary man who wakes up one morning to find he has been transformed into a giant insect. Soon he begins to realise he’s got bigger problems than being late for work. His family, shocked by his bizarre condition, barricade him into his room, unwilling to accept that somewhere inside this behemoth of a bug is their son.

Kafka’s brilliant, tragicomic novel is a story about the vicious circle of dehumanisation – among other things – and as such is strikingly relevant for the times we are living in. Whilst the dark story embodies serious ideas, it is also extremely funny and the production will celebrate its ‘Kafkaesque’ humour, pitting the absurdity of Gregor’s transformation against the perplexity of those around him. This will be a contemporary version brought to life by the renowned Vanishing Point theatre company. 

The Metamorphosis: Unplugged is created by Vanishing Point. The idea is that it can ‘go anywhere’ – community centres, church halls, pub function rooms – so there will be little or no set and lighting.
