Amy Henderson and Ewan MacPherson are both well known, experienced musicians working on the folk/trad scene in Scotland, they have joined forces to create a new duo, to further explore their shared love of traditional music and song along with new instrumental compositions and songwriting. Their music is acoustic and without gimmicks, they enjoy a singing a nice vocal harmony and creating intricate, beautiful arrangements that can pluck at your heart strings or move your feet.
They will be touring throughout 2027-28 to celebrate the release of their debut album scheduled for release in early 2027 and to share their unique arrangements in a relaxed performance style. Audiences can expect to hear some of the finest accordion and whistle playing around Scotland today alongside Ewan’s unique 6 & 12 string guitar sounds and mandolin. Interspersed with beautiful arrangements of traditional and contemporary songs with both taking turns to sing lead. The duo are inspired by Scottish / Irish / English / Scandinavian & American music yet create a sound which is entirely their own.
Amy & Ewan began playing together seven years ago with Cairngorm Ceilidh Band and have been playing as a duo for the last three years. Since debuting at The Gathering in Inverness in 2024 they have played Celtic Connections in 2025, Belladrum Festival, Drams in The Field and Croy Live alongside a regular weekly gig in Hootenanny and a variety of corporate shows in exclusive Highland locations and Estates for VIP guests travelling to Scotland. Clients include: Wildland.Scot, Affric Estate, Skibo Castle, Wilderness Scotland and The Fife Arms. Their debut EP ‘Searching for Gold’ was released on 30th Jan 2026 and has been well received with plays on BBC Scotland & Radio Nan Gadheal, Celtic Music Radio, Skye FM and others.
Individual Biographies:
Amy is a well respected Highland musician, her music is rooted in her family homelands of Culburnie where in addition to a busy music career she works a croft with livestock including sheep, horses and bees.
Her time studying on the trad degree in Newcastle gave her access to a wide range of European traditions and British styles which she brings to the table alongside her Scottish sounds. With a wealth of experience as a performer, she has shared stages with bands such as Skippinish & Torridon to current collaborations with Ross Martin & Eilidh Shaw, plus a recent Australian tour with Luc MacNally.
Ewan is a singer/songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer with over 25 years of experience in the folk/trad music scene. He has worked with a cross section of the Scottish folk scene, was a member of Shooglenifty for thirteen years and co-founded the acclaimed alt-folk trio Salt House and Nu-Nordic Quartet Fribo, Ewan was also a member of Scots song band Malinky.
His heart is in the folk/trad world but he is a musical magpie and a bit of a chameleon, known variously for his guitar playing or mandolin/banjo picking or sometimes as a singer/songwriter. His recent solo project called ‘Hushman’ was described by ‘KLOF Mag’ as “…a little masterpiece of confidence and understatement. Wonderful.”
His music has been featured on various BBC radio stations, with multiple nominations at the MG Alba Scottish Trad Music Awards for his work in different bands and as an instrumentalist. Ewan’s instrumental album Fetch! was recognised as one of Songlines’ ‘Top of the World Albums’ in 2017.
