A Journey of Flight

A Journey of Flight is an immersive 50-minute dance performance created in Shetland and inspired by the migration of birds. Through mesmerising choreography, live music (Jenny Sturgeon), and stunning projected visuals (Alison Piper), it creates a thought-provoking journey of arrivals, departures, the nostalgia of place and the notion of flight itself. Against flowing white sheets (repurposed Road Underlay from a large controversial windfarm), the dancers explore new states of being and new homes. This visually stunning piece invites audiences to reflect on the delicate balance between nature, movement and our emotional ties to place and each other.

The piece is performed in the round and has been performed in Arts Venues and village halls, from Dumfries and Galloway to Shetland.

A Journey of Flight was commissioned by Shetland Arts and has recieved funding from Creative Scotland’s Touring Fund for Theatre and Dance and Edinburgh Fringe’s Made in Scotland showcase. Through these funds it has delivered a 6 venue tour across Scotland and 1 week at the Edinburgh Fringe.

The work has 2 dancers (Kathryn Gordon and Jorja Follina) and live music (Jenny Sturgeon). It travels with them and Technical Manager Dav Bernard.
