Haver Quartet is thrilled to announce the launch of our debut LP album ‘FOLK(ish)’, featuring unique jazz and bluegrass inspired originals alongside innovative interpretations of folk tunes from Scotland and beyond. These tunes have been played across a wide range of settings since the quartet was formed – for concert societies, care homes, unsuspecting commuters at train stations, village halls, ASN schools, and festival audiences alike – and have now been compiled as an album and a live concert experience as a means to continue strengthening relationships with existing audiences, and reach out to new listeners with our work.
Keen to push the boundaries of collaborative practice, and passionate about establishing a new basis for creatives to form sustainable relationships with the communities around them, Haver Quartet wants to bring high-quality, accessible, and engaging musical experiences for all. We have been fortunate to tour Scotland extensively as part of a street orchestra between 2018-24, and have particularly warm memories of touring in rural venues and interacting with the local communities. Its hard to think of a better place than the Highlands & Islands to visit with our debut album!
In order to make a deeper impact on the people and places we visit as well as limit the environmental impact of travelling, the quartet offers a holistic touring model that caters to the specific needs of our venues and partners. Our tour days may start off with pop-up performances in public spaces, followed by a school visit or a side-by-side workshop with young musicians, and ending with an evening concert. This allows us to immerse ourselves in the life of the local communities and enables us to find ways of highlighting aspects of our work that may be relevant to listeners.
Our set up is compact and totally self sufficient – we travel with our instruments, stand and move around while playing, and have no technical needs – making this project ideal for rural touring.
