This is a great show for all the family, a magical, miniature puppet show all about the Cromer Crab Fishermen of North Norfolk and a snapshot of life on the East Anglian coast, with; folk music, mermaids, mischief and sing-along- opportunities for all ages! This is a wonderful introduction to the joyful art of puppetry, the show is very gentle, simple to follow and fun with lots of colour and music!
The story is presented using rod marionette puppets, moving scenery and props combined with traditional folk music, movement, humour and song. The characters are based on some of the real crab fishermen of Cromer. This fun story imagines a day at sea; beginning with the launch of the boats and ending with safe return home laden with Cromer crabs!
The fishermen meet all sort of characters whilst at sea, including; an inquisitive mermaid, a seal and a very cheeky giant sea squid! There is also a flashback to old Cromer to remember some of the fishermen and crab boats from 50 years ago.
The story itself is mainly wordless but each scene is brought to life by easy to follow visual narratives and interactions between the vivid characters and settings. The show is highly visual and is performed to a continuous soundtrack of seaside soundscapes and lively East Anglian folk music with sing-along opportunities.
The show has been especially designed for all ages and can be performed several times a day. The fees given include a flat rate for 3 x shows per day as indoors, the audience is limited to 40 per show, making this a very special close up experience for all. For smaller catchment areas two performances can be offered on the same day across 2 different nearby venues and the fee can be split. For very small communities a reduced fee can be offered for 1 x performance. 1 x performance plus a workshop is also another option.
The ‘all ages’ recommendation is based on the short length of the show and minimal dialogue used.
By prior arrangement, visually impaired audience members are welcome to talk to the performer between shows to have a touch tour of the puppets and scenery and to hear about the story visual narrative.
