Theatre in Schools Scotland has been developed by Imaginate and the National Theatre of Scotland, to bring bold, inspiring, live theatre and dance productions into Scotland’s schools and nurseries.
The year-round programme of touring performances offers schools and teachers the opportunity to present acclaimed shows, created especially for younger audiences, for pupils at school. Performances take place in the school hall or in classrooms and are available to book anywhere in Scotland.
Our productions are by a variety of Scottish performing companies and are designed specifically with schools in mind, suitable for their buildings and age appropriate for their pupils. We arrange all practicalities to ensure maximum enjoyment and learning from the visit, with minimum disruption to the school day.
The programme is now year-round and available throughout Scotland and suitable for classes from Nursery to S1.

The Last Forecast by Bridie Gane, presented by Catherine Wheels is a new dance theatre show for young audiences. Somewhere, on an island, Gail, a gecko-like creature lives alone, in harmony with the surroundings. Everything matches, everything is perfect. Unfortunately, Gail is not alone for long. A stranger arrives, laden with earthly belongings and starts setting up home, disturbing this island sanctuary. However, the forecast is for rising water levels and soon there won’t be space for either of them…

Going for Gold: Me and Linford Christie, by Victoria Beesley and presented by Catherine Wheels is a solo performance about one girl’s journey to Olympic success. Vickie wants to compete at the Olympics. There is only one obstacle; she isn’t very good at sport. This is a story about loving failure and dreaming big, inspired by the writer’s own childhood obsession with athletics. From the creator of ‘My Friend Selma’ which toured with us in 2019, this production has previously toured under the name ‘Kissing Linford Christie’.

Cloud Man, presented by Constellation Points is a cleverly staged show with puppets, storytelling and lots of clouds, exploring the ways we try and make sense of the world and encourages the audience to notice the beauty and wonder to be found in everyday life. Claude loves clouds, and he dreams one day of seeing a Cloud Man. Cloud Men are very rare, very shy and very, very hard to find. Sitting on little cloud cushions, the audience watch Claude as he follows clues which lead him to the top of Cloud Mountain, where they will find a big surprise! This production previously toured with us in 2019 and 2020, when the tour was cut short due to the pandemic – we are overjoyed to have it back!

MESS, presented by Tenterhooks is a bold, playful and emotionally engaging theatre performance made especially for young audiences (age 5-18) with complex additional support needs and school staff. The performance tells the story of how an ordinary day in the life of a team of caretakers turns unpredictable when, for the first time ever, they attempt to clean a space which has people in it. This is a highly sensory, stimulating experience with audience interaction throughout and frequent moments of stillness and silence to allow the audience time to process, engage and respond in their own ways. The performance celebrates and includes any and all responses. We are very excited to offer our first-ever performance solely for pupils with additional support needs.
