Puppet Animation Scotland is a Creative Scotland Regularly Funded Organisation. We produce two festivals; manipulate Visual Theatre Festival and Puppet Animation Festival, each year.
Puppet Animation Festival aims to bring quality puppet theatre, animated film and workshops to all children across Scotland every Easter. Each year we provide over 50 venues with around 150 events. It is our ambition to ensure children across Scotland have access to performing arts and animated film which is why we tour our festival from Scotland’s city centres to all edges of the country – exploring the Highlands and Islands, Borders, Central Belt and everywhere in between. We are always trying to expand our network of venues and reach new audiences – so if you’d like Puppet Animation Festival to visit you, please get in touch.
Puppet Animation Festival strives to provide a programme which includes accessible performances. Most recently we provided a series of performances for euro-diverse children and young people with complex needs as well as soft or relaxed performances.
manipulate Visual Theatre Festival brings world-class national and international visual theatre to audiences across the UK. Though our festival him in the Traverse Theatre, Edinburgh, we tour some performances to The Lemon Tree, Aberdeen, Norwich Puppet Theatre, Little Angel Theatre, London, Small World Theatre, Wales and Horse + Bamboo, Newcastle amongst many others.
Presented at the beginning of the year, kick-starting the cultural calendar, manipulate aims to challenge and inspire audiences. Alongside the programme of performances and animated film we provide a series of masterclasses at Dance Base, Edinburgh, with some of the world’s best known visual theatre practitioners. The success of manipulate has enabled and inspired Scottish visual theatre artists to begin consistently to create and tour internationally their own work to leading festivals throughout Europe.
Puppet Animation Scotland’s values artistic development and as such, each year provides a season of workshops for artists who wish to engage visual theatre, puppetry or animated films, or further develop their skills. We are based in Edinburgh’s Summerhall, as a nationwide organisation, we are committed to supporting Scottish based artists and as such have an open door policy – we are always interested and excited to meet artists who work with, or are interested in working with the art forms we champion.
